Consulting: Back in the Saddle
July 01, 2025
TL;DR — After a season of deep R&D (Godot, AI, shaders, Rust—you name it), dozens of indie-dev mentoring sessions, and a short detour involving a ski slope and a neck brace, I’m opening my calendar for consulting engagements again. If you’ve ever wanted to jam on a thorny tech problem, get an outside read on your production pipeline, or just siphon two decades of AAA wisdom into your roadmap—now’s your shot.
Why now?
-
The lab is officially overflowing.
- 🛠️ Godot deep-dive: custom exporters, performance profiling, scripting pipelines.
- 🤖 AI refresh: foundational ML math → prompt-engineering, agent orchestration, NPC prototypes.
- ⚙️ GPU & shader play: SDFs, compute toys, and one gloriously unstable path-tracer.
- 🦀 Rust experiments: ECS variants, CLI build tools, a hot-swap asset server that actually behaves.
- 📚 ~50 books devoured: from human-systems design to rendering arcana.
- 🏗️ Office rebuilt: upgraded video & audio setup, spotless cable management, faster network, mirrored NAS backups, and sandbox VMs for spin-up test builds—perfect for rapid prototyping and high-quality demos.
-
The industry is wobbling.
Layoffs, mergers, and engine roulette have left a lot of teams thin on senior guidance. A short burst of outside perspective can steady the ship faster than another all-hands meeting. -
The human puzzle—and indie spark.
Over the last few months I’ve talked with dozens of indies at meet-ups, jams, and virtual hangouts. Guiding them through design snags and production potholes reminded me how much I thrive on unlocking people, not just code. Watching that “aha!” moment light up a room is addictive. -
Life reminder.
A recent very close call on the slopes hammered home that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. (I’m fine—better than ever, actually.) So I’m doubling down on the work that energizes me and helps others ship great games. -
Selfish math.
Consulting keeps me in diverse problem spaces while preserving space for my own R&D sprints. Plus, my new espresso machine has a pricey taste for single-origin beans.
What’s on offer?
Mode | Scope & Outcome | Duration |

📈 Advisory Partnership | Part-time guidance across tech, process, and people | Monthly / quarterly |
🧭 Fractional CTO | Embedded leadership without adding a full-time headcount | 3–12 months |
Full details live on the Consulting page—availability is slim, but I’ve carved out a few slots each quarter for projects that excite me.
Why it matters to you
If you need to:
- Crush a performance bottleneck that’s stalling builds
- Reboot a pipeline where asset ingestion takes longer than lunch
- Defuse people conflicts before they hit Reddit
- Stress-test a pitch with someone who’s defended budgets in both boardrooms and war rooms
…now is that window.
How to grab a slot
- Skim the options on the consulting page.
- Hit the First Contact link to book a complimentary call.
- Bring your toughest challenges. I’ll bring caffeine, candor, and a concrete plan.
Spoiler: I don’t overbook. When the slots are gone, they’re gone until next quarter. If your gut says “We should talk,” trust it.
See you in the call queue—and thanks for following along.
Patch the fun, not just the bugs.
